It all began with a commercial van running into the back of my stopped vehicle, pushing it into a SUV stopped in front of me. Other than shock, I did not immediately feel hurt but as the days went by, I began to have pains in several areas and stiffness generally. In a couple of weeks, the pains were such that I sought more in depth medical attention than just the check up I had a few days after the accident. Soon I was on pain meds and seeing a couple of doctors. The Ortho MD, after several tests said I had some serious injuries, needed treatments, physical therapy, and likely needed at least some injections in my back and was definitely a candidate for back surgery. I had to curtail most of my physical activities like golf and tennis and my sailboat was idle for all that first year. Some days, just getting out of bed and moving around was a painful ordeal.
