(June 7, 2017, 12:39 am)Lake Whidden is named for Myrle A. Whidden, a Mulberry law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty 81 years ago in 1936. Until early 2017, the lake was neglected, overgrown, and teeming with mosquitoes. The City of Mulberry undertook ownership of the lake and set out to reclaim it. As of this writing (June 2017), the lake is on its way to recovering its beauty, open water surface, and public attraction as the city's newest park!
