“Camp Nelson, Bob, Emily and Milly So much history here, and the promise of freedom serves. Inlisting US military, Blackman opportunities, ring the chains of bondage in a fight for the civil rights many signed up and joined, and then they were able to bring their families as well to live, get jobs as well as a education. THE HIKE IS GOOD,so is the history. I WOULD RECOMMEND”

“We Dry camped because of no amenities in an Rv (needs to be under 24 ') right after Memorial Day so it was empty and quiet the way we like it but this is more of a dirt bike and ATV park and all the trails are for them so it would be loud at a busy time. Loved campsite #10 and they have fire pits. Campground has 20 sites.one loop has 1-10 sites then another loop has 11 -20 . They do have vault toilets”

Lago Linda Hideaway

Campground Rv park Real estate agency Lodging Travel agency Park

“We had a fantastic time staying for 5 days at Lago Linda Hideaway! Most campgrounds in the area are first come first served, but our group had seven people with 3-4 vehicles and a travel trailer coming from three different states on a holiday weekend so we preferred to reserve our sites to assure we could be close together. Unfortunately, a turn in the weather caused a few people in our group to cancel, but despite the weather, the remaining members of our group had a great time hanging out at camp and driving into Red River Gorge to climb and hike. The owners and staff were super friendly and helpful. We were able to switch sites easily (and we reimbursed the difference) since we had a smaller group. The cafe/store had ice cream, water, snacks, ice, firewood and served meals at a reasonable price. We used the Shakeout Shack and pavilion quite a bit to cook, play board games and hide from the rain. We also took advantage of the laundry room to wash our wet clothes after getting drenched, but when the clouds cleared there was plenty to keep us occupied right at camp. We brought our inflatable paddle boards but it was a haul for us to bring them down the slope to the lake. If staying at one of the lakeside cabins, we definitely would have taken the time to use them. Instead, a couple from our group borrowed kayaks available for use at the dock. On Saturday night we ate food we bought at the cafe and listened to live music on the deck. The showers and restrooms were decent but I think it would be a bonus to have another restroom or pit toilets near sites #1, 2 and 3, because it's a long walk to the bathhouses. I definitely recommend this campground to anyone visiting the Red River Gorge or even just wanting a nice retreat from home.”

Yew Dell Botanical Gardens

Address: 6220 Old Lagrange Rd, Crestwood, KY 40014, USA

Park

“We had a relaxing time at Yell Dell. We spent about two hours enjoying wandering the grounds looking at the beautiful plants and unique trees. There was an adorable fairy trail to walk through and a castle with a wedding just finishing up. They do have a nice cafe and seating that is covered overlooking open space. Clean restrooms and signs everywhere naming the plants and trees. If you can walk without difficulty there is a path around two ponds on their property adjacent to the castle. You have to take the stairs down to a grassy path. Head to the concert that has a gate. It almost looks like you are entering a restricted area but it is still the property of Yell. They have cute Gnome’s sporadically placed along the hiking paths. I loved that and they have names. We purchased a couple of pots for my plants in their nice gift shop.”

There were plenty of other campgrounds much closer than this one. As it turned out, this campground worked out fine. Clean, well laid out, well staffed and very friendly are the best ways to describe it. The store was well stocked ( minus fridge Magnets ) and the pool was a comfy 81 degrees warm. The restrooms and showers were well lit and clean. We appreciated the Sunday breakfast of pancakes & bacon for $4.”
