“The property is beautiful. You could take 2-3 hrs just enjoying the gardens. The house furnishings are amazing and a must see. The tour guide did a great job telling the history and answering our questions. The oak trees are massive and the grounds are covered with these beauties. Walk up to the river to get a good view of what they would have seen before the levee was built. I highly recommend Houmas House and Gardens.”

“Great place for a weekend getaway. The RV spots have an elevated deck that keeps you out of the mud. Picnic table, fire pit etc…. The sites are secluded enough to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and get lost in the sounds of the swamp. The nature center is a must see. Inside you will find information and displays of the local flora and fauna. There are several aquatic animals in tanks for viewing. We spent about an hour looking around and if we weren’t starving we would have stayed longer. There is playground and a splash pad area that makes the park great for kids. The camping and cabin areas are paved which makes biking and scootering around easy. The only downside to this park is most all the trails and all of the boardwalk trails are closed due to massive storm damage. I commend the work that has been done to restore this park after the multiple storms we have had however, there is substantial damage to what I consider the “main attraction” of the park, the natural surroundings. That being said you will still see an abundance of cypress, pine and oak trees. Don’t forget to visit the grandmother tree! (400-800 years old) Definitely worth a visit.”

“Love this playground! The thing that I love the most is that the playground equipment is covered. Lots of shade from pavilions, trees & sails. The old fire truck is really neat. I did not get pictures of all of the playground equipment because my phone died but will add more pics next time we go.”

Punk Smith Park

Address: 12860 Burgess Ave, Walker, LA 70785, USA

Park

“Great place to bring your kids, not good for bathroom breaks, they rarely clean the bathrooms, they never clean the park in general, most birthday parties are on weekends. Dogs and cats allowed if they are on a collar and leash. Free to enter, free doggy bags, big yard to play in, kid friendly playground, the area and neighborhood is nice (I live in the neighborhood) it's usually packed on weekends and after 3-4 pm on work days (usually) they close at 8:30 pm (Most of the time) theres no water fountains, so you have to bring your own drinks and food. Overall, nice park, minimal cleanliness. Oh and theres no wifi.”

“Went on 1/2/2022 with our family of 6 and had a great time! the guide Bruce was fantastic! The course as of this date had 8 lines and we did it in about an hour, but the weather was inclement and hardly anyone was there at the time. I could see this taking longer if you are having to wait on other groups during busy times. They had lockers for storage and water bottles at the end of the course. Some areas may be muddy so wear older shoes. They provide gloves for 'braking' on the zipline. Note for picture/video takers... either bring a go pro with a lanyard or have your phone/camera on a lanyard as your typical pockets aren't as accessible with the harness. Also, you have to keep your gloves on during the ride so your fingers can't 'touch' the screen.”
