Through their activities the towns residents get such a resource to learn about the commuties roots and culture. Kudos to tue volunteers who keep this going.”

“Wayland Museum is still something if an undiscovered treasure in the center of Wayland. It offers so much to those doing research on Wayland's past. It works with schools, offers interesting programs monthly, and more. The website effectively "spreads the word."”

“Particularly one of the Great American homes, this is where Ralph Waldo Emerson's grandfather lived, on a bend in the river a really Divine landscape, where the road turned to cross the river just behind, about a half-mile or less out of the village, where the British troops marched looking for the arms the Colonials had amassed getting ready to revolt against the King. In no other landscape is there more meaning or reason for devotion for the American mind.”

“You really have to search for this small museum, which is about 5 miles out of Lowell. The Middlesex Canal was one the country's first canals and this little museum covers it in great detail. It is a tad dated, but being a small museum, they do their best. The staff is quite knowledgeable and helpful. As with any place in Massachusetts, there is history everywhere and the setting is quite scenic. If you are in the area, take an hour to stop in for a visit and learn a little about this pre-Erie Canal canal.”

“Definitely a must for any fan of Emerson or history. The place sadly seem in need of a little love. I think that is why they do not allow anyone to take pictures...”

“Fairly fine experience. I had a time exploring the area and seeing the rich history that people had preserved all these years later. Most of the exhibits had an impact on my travel group, with the sophisticated scenarios the museum represented. Although it was not perfect, it was a very great time, and I'd recommend the Concord Museum to any East Coast travellers in the area.”

“We go every year for their Christmas program. The tour is lead by members of the Alcott family , including Louisa herself. Each room of the house has an Alcott to introduce themselves to you and explain information about their family's life, Orchard House, and speak about Little Women. You step back in time and they treat you as if you were one of their contemporaries stopping by to visit. Advanced tickets can be bought online and are highly recommended, especially for the Christmas program which is held on four days in December. If you buy advanced tickets you are offered a 10% off coupon to use that day in their gift shop. Many of Alcott's books and books about her work are available. Some period toys that the Alcott sisters would have been familiar with, as well as post cards and magnets. A personal favorite must-have treat is the package of heart-shaped shortbread cookies baked locally. We leave with a package for each of our family members. They have become part of our Orchard House tradition.”

“This house has history for my family - we are related distantly to the Harndens. The museum curator was kind enough to open the place special for us during a family reunion weekend. The tour was great and she was very knowledgeable about the place. Very cool to see the displays and hear the history of the house and the town and surrounding area.”

“An unassuming hidden gem in suburban Massachusetts. Gropius designed his own personal residence to showcase all the design principles that the Bauhaus school stood for. The tours conducted here do a nice job of providing historical context and there's a tiny shop at the front visitor desk.”
