  Beautiful trails. If you see people with beer or alcohol mind your own business and keep walking. As long as they arent leaving empty containers behind or being a nuisance then who cares? You know how many people are walking through high as a kite? I think some of you all too often confuse rules with morality. 10/10 would get drunk and high here again :D

  This trail is a peaceful, serene walk. I walked it once in late summer, and while you could hear the traffic from the river road, I felt secluded by the canopy of tree branches and leaves. I walked it again in the fall, and the views across the river to the color of changing leaves was beautiful.

  Awesome! I was the first to walk the trail earlier, still had snow, slippery but maintained my footing and had Beautiful spots worth taking pics!

The trail is approximately .7 miles and is hard-surfaced. There is no fee to visit, but hours may be limited The 5 mile roundtrip Winchell Trail is a hiking-only trail on the west bank of the river between Franklin Avenue (651) 293-0200 This is the general phone line at the Mississippi River Visitor Center.

Winchell Trail - Wag!

From here it travels north along puptacular bluffs that overlook the river. Some parts of the trail are paved, but for the most part it is a natural surface.

Newton Horace Winchell

Winchell Trail in southeast Minneapolis is named after Winchell. The trail runs about 2.5 miles along the west bank of the Mississippi River from Franklin Avenue South to East 44th Street.
