“I walked on part of this path from the Phoenix Zoo/ Papago Park area (next to the Hole in the Rock). It's concrete and nicely paved. Unfortunately, there wasn't much shade. Didn't see many hikers, most a few bikes going along the trail. It got hot, so I had to turn back. Edit: This path apparently also extends to Scottsdale (not sure if same one but did see the labeled sign along the path.) I was able to access this path from the G.R. Herberger Park. There were some nice trees in blossom along the way, however this part of the trail was close to the street- so a bit noisy.”

“Such a relaxing place to go! Will definitely be coming back many times. They have cute trails and a cute bridge with ducks. If you want to just get away from people or could use some great alone time, or couple time, this place is so perfect. You do have to pay for parking, but it's only a couple dollars.. It's worth it though.”

“The union pacific bridge, duals as a gate, maybe a gate to a machine heaven, a hobo paradise, as I spend the night by the river, the clump of cottonwood trees, creates a canopy in the blue skies, is there a difference in the height from forest floor to that canopy, maybe a nest settled in the trees to keep those eggs of creativity, as they hatch, I wait for a new tomorrow. May be there is no spirit but the wings of flight.”

“Here's what you need to know: Parking: Lot Age range (playground): 1+ Sidewalks: Paved to play area and around facility grounds Seating: Benches around play area Bathrooms: Inside community center Picnic tables: A couple by the building Grills: None Sports field: Several on facility grounds Palace Park sits right behind the community center on synthetic flooring. It spans the length of the building and matches it in quality. From the swings to the seesaw, the playground equipment is in excellent condition. There is a wide assortment of play equipment: a play area for little kids (1+) and another for big kids (4+). The play areas are stocked with climbing walls, monkey bars, ladders, stairs, and slides. In the middle of the playground is a wheel that turns. Madi and Titus had the most fun on this play piece. Next to the big kid playground is a swing set with a hammock swing (always a huge hit with my kiddos), high back swing, and regular swings, and a spinner. Next to the little kid playground is a swing set with baby swings, a mini seesaw, and a seesaw shaped like a boat. If you forgot to pack water bottles, there's also a couple of water fountains beside the building on the little kid side of the play area. I was excited at how well-kept the play equipment is (the sports fields also look well-groomed). Even in a highly residential neighborhood, the playgrounds are in great condition. There were a couple school groups and local guests there during our visit. We even got to see what looked like a middle-school marching band practice in one of the baseball fields! I have two, in my opinion, minor qualms with Palace Park. The first is that there is absolutely no shade for whoever's in the play area. You'll find plenty of resting space in the shade if you hang out by the building; but if you're playing in the play space, you'd better have plenty of water and sunscreen. The second is that the synthetic flooring isn't all "stuck." If we touched the flooring with anything sticky (i.e. our arms and legs), we found ourselves covered in little black flecks. While I brushed off these flecks with no issue, my kiddos freaked out because they thought bugs were stuck to them. If you're looking for a post-modern playground design with an engineering feel, Palace Park definitely fits the bill. You'll appreciate its unique aura and the variety of equipment it provides for your littles.”

“A small park being renovated little by little from toxic dumping and industrial space to prairie. A sacred site to indigenous people, and some great collaborations are happening here. There’s a small parking lot so it’s easy to visit. Good interpretive signs to learn about the history of the space. Wave at the prairie when you visit.”

“Van Cleve Park really was so much fun to ice skate at. The skates are free and NICE, they have a variety of sizes. The warming room was always clean and open. The front desk staff was SUPER friendly and welcoming, and the other skaters were all nice and amiable also. A super cool feature at a local park that I wish I knew about before!”

“It was my first time to a dog park with other dogs at the park. It seems to be a very popular dog park in the area! The park was very muddy and icey for the most part which we didn't expect. It however us beautiful area full of trees. The layout of the dog park is very large. It is large enough to get away from dogs that don't get along with your dog. There is community dog bowls and extra bags. I however would bring water, a bowl and bags for my dog.”

“Delaplane Preserve is a 51 acre preserve located along the south fork of the St. Lucie River. Although it is large only a small part of it is accessible. There is a 6 car parking lot. From there you hike a 1/4 mile hard packed gravel trail through live oaks and cabbage palms before you get to the river where there is a fishing dock, canoe and kayak launch, and picnic tables. Adjacent to the dock is a tree with a rope swing. According to the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, the river is pretty polluted so I don't know if it's advisable to swim. The Martin County Public Works Department has restored the wetlands and native plants and are working to remove the exotic plants although I did see quite a few of them. The preserve is home to the threatened gopher tortoise and while I didn't spot any I did come across two rabbits by the river. There are a number of nature preserves in the area. While this preserve isn't a destination by itself, when combined with the other natural areas nearby it can become a wonderful afternoon visiting the nature of Martin County.”

“Smallish dog park, but there's dirt to dig, a log to jump on, and space to run about. There is a separate small dog/puppy area, and it is wheel chair accessable although the mulch may provide an obstacle. Most of the dogs are friendly, but watch out for people who bring their small dogs and puppies into the bug area- their dogs get played with too rough by a bigger dog and the little dog goes into fight mode.”
