“This is a place for rest, prayer and meditation in a very Catholic atmosphere--not in vain was it an active seminary for decades. The impressive made-up of the building was designed to house more than two hundred seminarians and this tells you how large the whole thing is. Different groups of religious, both male or female, and also groups of lay people come to peruse the many chapels, rooms and places so well adapted for having a preaching or time of quiet.”

“There is a great view and very nice scenery. Also historic buildings to look at as you walk on the hiking trail. You will see majestic horses from the equestrian building and ranch!”

“A long scenic drive to this location, littered with large manicured homes on large plots along the way. The trails here are well marked but kind of short. Spotted the occasional bird and squirrel, along with a few fisherman on the pebble beach shore. Otherwise it felt like I had the place to myself as there were only two other cars in the parkinglot, probably belonging to each of the fishermen.”

“Wonderful park at the end of the peninsula, very large. Ideal for horseback riding (which you should inquire of before coming) great for strolling through gardens, fields, trails and one of the best bike riding paths in these parts. You can see a fair amount of birdlife, especially by the lake considering it is a Bird Conservation Area. I would recommend spending the whole day just walking around and exploring. I bought a blanket and snacks and took nice breaks between the attractions. There are a few structures on the grounds, worth exploring around. The park does a fantastic job of holding on the history Manor style with all of it's sprawling grounds.”

“The Marshall Field House is located in Cumasett State Park. It is a great place to walk, hike, bicycle and fish. There is a private horse stable and bridal paths. There are restrooms available. It is an outdoor paradise within the New York Metropolitan area. It is one of the few places on Long Island where you can get away from automobile sounds. There is an extensive hiking trail network. Spend a few hours or spend a day. The Marshall Field House is located within the park but is not open to the public. Part of the Greatest Show was filmed there last year. There are great views from the rear of the mansion. I take a star off since there is not a concession stand for food and drinks. However Huntington is a short drive and has a host of eateries. During the season there is an $8.00 parking fee or use an Empire Pass. Seniors are free Monday to Friday with ID.”
