Steep. But a great section of Forest Park to start a ride or run. Roll through the connector trails like Maple, Leif or Wildwood or suffer the full Saltzman climb!
We went on a Sunday afternoon in late October. The parking is limited and it was quite crowded. The trails are well groomed and very clearly marked.
You do have to be vigilant for very fast cyclists on the larger paths.
There is some beautiful maple foliage in the area and worth a look.
The firelane 4 trail - opposite the Saltzman road trailhead, has become my new favorite starting point. From here, you can reach the Maple trail, and make either a north or south loop, each about 4 miles. Both directions are stunning and hardly used.
Found incredible beauty and friendly hikers on the trail. There was an intoxicating sweetness in the air that we couldn't Identify and it was so wonderful that we decided to look for it's source. We soon came across a shy little vine with white flowers whose petals brought to mind the spines of a sea urchin. Have not been able to put a name to the vine, but it's fragrant aroma still lingers and I will definitely be returning to that trail soon.
Forest Park is an amazing park with many miles of trails. I hiked this trail over 5 years ago with a friend when I started hiking. We hiked it again this morning and it was absolutely perfect. This forest is so inviting and the temperature always seems right to me. You will meet some cool people and lots of awesome puppies. So bring the puppies and the kids and have a great time. See you there.
