“What a gem of a place! Took a road trip and found this place. The Lady that helped us was very kind and happy to fulfill couple requests we had. The view is amazing as it sits right on the river. The small town is very cute to walk around and there is a casino within 10 minute walk. The building is very cool as it was built as a ship captains home in the 1800s. What a refreshing change of pace from box hotel's with no personality. As a side note, it is dog friendly for those that travel with dogs. Would absolutely stay again.”

“Terry's is a great place that is near Alvin, but not in Alvin. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets in a quiet park. I spent almost a year there and it was absolute peace. “I spent a few days here in November 2021 for a "girls" getaway. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the property was too. Location was perfect for what we did; whooping crane bird tour and eating the freshest seafood at local spots. The pool and hot tub were lovely. Other guests were kind and respectful. I really wish every hotel stay was this simple and layed back. This is a gem within a gem of a town.”

“Most beautiful view. Husband got otter lodge for my birthday and it was beautiful secluded and the owners were so nice and personable. Susan’s muffins are my daughters favorite part! They were so yummy! So much to explore and the hot tub was super nice to relax in even when it was 3 degrees out! Community fire pit would definitely be nice in the spring/fall to gather round. We had a nice fire w snow on the ground lol highly recommend this stay. So peaceful and that’s what mattered to me . Thanks Susan and Micah.”

“I have to start by saying that my husband and I were very on the fence about staying here based on some of the reviews we read. I am so glad we decided to take a chance and I feel that those reviews are VERY outdated. The grounds of this resort are beautiful and the vegetation variety is astonishing. The resort is very serene, amenities are very impressive and you can tell that no expense was spared on anything. The spa is also very peaceful and the salt room is a must do! Gym has everything anyone might need for a great work out and again, no expense was spared on the equipment. Finally, the staff was very friendly, accommodating, welcoming, and truly on top of everything. The Bear restaurant is a must for dinner (the crispy rice appetizer is off the charts amazing and so is the red snapper). We had other reservations but ended up eating there three times during our stay. We highly recommend this resort and will be coming back ourselves.”

“To explain how great The Modern Barn is I'll say this: we booked a getaway to relax on the beach, but the Barn was so great we didn’t go to the beach once during the entire stay (although it’s only a 12 min drive). A definite 11/10. The moment we got to the house, Travis reached out and gave us a tour of the property, as well as shared his knowledge of the best local places for going out. The house was even better than described. The gigantic game room had our family staying up well into the night engaging in competitions. When not in the game room, we spend a lot of time in the wonderful swimmable Koi pond. There is so much to do and so much to experience at The Modern Barn. The attached Loft is also perfect to provide both unity and privacy if two families are staying. We really enjoyed the amazing and informative conversations we had with Travis throughout our stay. You can really tell that Travis and Jen put their heart and soul into The Modern Barn and it is very much appreciated! Thank you guys for a wonderful and memorable getaway. We will be back.”

Though death is a every day occurrence to these businesses, our fathers passing was not just another business transaction to us. Out of the three companies we contacted, BioTechs is the team that had us feel some type of comfort by the way they handled our call. David and Roxanne spoke and treated us with sympathy and empathy, they displayed professionalism while maintaining compassionate non scripted customer service. The old school bar inside is nice, clean, drink and food prices are good and the quality backs it up.
