“I love this trail. It's easy to walk despite being gravel, has porta-potties at one of the entrances, and will take you through several towns (like Frankfort and Matteson) and near various businesses outside of the town proper (such as the Speedway on Harlem). Everyone you meet going along it is friendly and careful. I was walking - strolling, really - but didn't have to worry about me or my Chihuahua mix getting run down by an inattentive rider. (The trail is of course pet friendly - several people stopped to pet her or scratch her ears, which she always appreciates.l”

“Enjoyed the afternoon at Sergeant Means Park, the Cook County Democratic Party held its annual picnic here. It was a perfect day! Guest speakers, Jesse White, Secretary of State, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, and others were on hand to speak on urgent issues and mingle with the enthusiastic, friendly crowd. There was plenty of food, beverages, alcoholic drinks, music, and bingo. There were bouncy gyms for the youngsters, and plenty of green grass in which to run and play.”

“One of my favorite places to run. The Vollmer Road Grove is easy to get to, has sufficient parking, and is a decent distance in length. I prefer a longer trail - this one is 3.6 miles if you do the whole loop - but it's also very conveniently located. You can get a longer trail in Palos or Orland or Willow Springs - or Schaumberg - but Vollmer Grove is local and convenient. Also, unlike many of the other trails in the South 'burbs, the trail does not cross any public streets. This trail is entirely self contained, yet has several neighborhood access points in case you need to bail out for any reason (such as a turn in weather) or if you want to enter off the main road. The trail is wooded canopy for most of the way, but the last third has an open meadow to one side and woodlands on the other. It's a nice, easy run (or walk). It's only 3.6 miles, but when you are pressed for time or simply want an uninterrupted run this is the place to go.”

“This place has a variety of options to do. Although the obstacle course and the climbing towers are well-known there, there's more things to do like team-building activities. We did activities that we thought was very hard became simple once we started communicating with each other. In the end, we learned more about other people. I recommend the team building for people terrified of heights or just want to get along with other people.”

“A flat and easy 3.6 mile trail on asphalt. Clearly marked mileage, clearly marked lanes. Generally easy to park. People friendly. Just enough variety in the terrain to keep it from being boring. If the weather turns bad there are easy outs about every mile.”

“This area is on my route to work everyday, simply because I love driving through it. I could drive down Cicero or 57 but I love the wilderness and the forest surrounding the large open prairie. The Cook County Forest Preserve as a whole does a great job in maintaining their natural zones.”

“Great place to see deer and listen to crickets”

“Nice place to view prairie birds. I have seen meadowlarks, bobolinks, redwing blackbirds among others. In the winter there's a harrier hawk patrolling the area.”
