“This was a great place to take a walk and see lots of Canada Geese, woodpeckers, red winged blackbirds, bluebirds, and cardinals. Look at the mud for some deer and raccoon prints. There are educational placards about common snakes in Illinois, plenty of benches scattered throughout and some lookout spots. The native plants are lovely even in late fall and are probably a sight to see in spring. The reeds are a hiding spot for birds, including the woodpecker.”

“Love this trail! Difficult to find when riding along the riverfront greenway trail so google maps is essential. Uses a dedicated bike bridge to cross the Mississippi. Cuts through Venice, a tiny town in IL, which is nice, but there’s no stoplights or signs. Hard to navigate so Maps is a must. Once there it’s fantastic. Silent and serene. One of the few trails I’ve been on that is nowhere near a road so there’s zero human noise pollution. Just birds and wildlife. I love it. The main trail splits into a bunch of smaller trails once at the fast food hub past Horseshoe Lake. Bathrooms, fishing, covered picnic areas can be found at Horseshoe Lake.”
