“Was a really good time. It was great to walk around and see a castle completely built out of concrete from 1908. It had a different decorated Christmas tree in each room. Each tree had a pickle on it that you had to find, fun little game to play while walking around. The library had a great collection of original books from the time period. The tile work was amazing, so much to see.”

“I recently shot a wedding here and it was beautiful with all the fall leaves! The ceremony was in the Auburn Church and the reception was in the Bond (Lennah Bond Activity Center) building. The church is very bright with lots of natural light. The Bond building has garage style doors and very spacious. It also has bathroom facilities. It is a well kept property and a unique place to have a wedding. The fall leaves made for beautiful photos! It is also within walking distance of the town center. The property has other buildings as well. I tried the maple nut fudge from the shop and loved it. I would make the drive out there just for that again!”

“I visited from out of town and thoroughly enjoyed the day there, The Dixson is very nice art gallery and the grounds are so beautiful! I saw a really great exhibit on Women's Sporting Fashion from 1800 - 1960. It was a unique and very well curated exhibit. There was also a local designer, professor with her formal dress designs on display, too. The impressionist, permanent collection, which was very nice, is mostly housed in an original old Memphis home. They also have a nice collection of Meissen China, a children's workshop area, a comfy bistro, and if course the beautiful grounds and cutting garden. Unbelievably, this is all free. They also have beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces for weddings and other events. I highly recommend it.”

Dinosaur World

Museum

“This place is amazing to go to, not just for kids but for adults as well. My 4yr old daughter has been talking about going here for over a year now and we finally got to go with my mom and two nieces and we all had a blast. They have a huge play ground, their museum was fantastic with the animatronic dinosaurs, meteorites, fossil's, all kinds of different teeth, tusk's, and more. The dinosaur walk path was great. I would recommend anyone that hasn't been to make the trip it's worth it and everyone will have fun. The prices are not as bad as I thought they would be. It was not crowded at all, and there is a pond with fish you can get food for and feed. And you have to check out the gift shop they have it's just amazing and have all kinds of neat stuff to get from toys to jewelry, to beautiful stones, fossil's, and gems.”

“We had an intern that gave us a tour of the house, the artifacts, and a detailed history of the family, the slaves that were there, Presidential affiliations, etc. She had great knowledge of all of this. The house is beautiful with an interesting collection of family possessions. We also walked the grounds to see the outbuildings which were interesting, as well as the family graveyard. It's worth the trip for sure and you can spend as much or as little time as you want. After the tour you are free to walk the property as you please.”

“Had such a lovely time visiting today! My sister recently moved into the area and we decided to do a little exploring…this place is super interesting, the people running the museum are so friendly and knowledgeable…had lots of little stories and interesting facts to share with us! They also change out displays, so you’ll always get to see something new! Plus, many local families bring in things they find or have put away to share and put on display, making this a very hands on community experience as well…we will be back for sure!”

San Diego Archaeological Center

Address: 16666 San Pasqual Valley Rd, Escondido, CA 92027, USA

Museum

“The San Diego Archaeological Center is small so you can see everything in about 15 minutes or take about an hour to read everything on every display. I was the only person in the Center for most of the time I was there. I thought the Center was interesting and I learned a few things. On the other hand, I think most kids would be bored there – no whales or dinosaurs, just thousand-year-old pottery, donut stones, arrowheads, and 125-year-old bottles. The Center asks for a $5 donation.”

Big Bear Valley Historical Museum

Address: 800 B Greenway Dr, Big Bear, CA 92314, USA

Museum

“Great local museum. Of note this museum consists of several out buildings that you have to walk between. This makes for a very hot experience on a warm summer day. Thank goodness they sold cold bottled root beer for $2 which helped keep moral high. The grounds are loose gravel and sand. You can see all the exhibits in about an hour. The kid's favorite was panning for gold. You can purchase a small vial in the gift shop for 50 cents to bring some "gold" aka fool's Gold, home with you. All of the volunteers at the museum were incredible! Such a wealth of knowledge and interesting facts they really made the experience.”
