“It is a small park ideally for very young kids from ages 1-4 years old. Not much to do for kids five years old and above unless they want to play basketball and soccer in the open field. The park is well lit at night and many teenagers use the basketball field sometimes late at night. The park is well kept and recently they have added a large table and a mobile toilet that is okay to use for on an emergency basis only. Most times not many people (kids) in this park unless there is a soccer team, baseball team or neighborhood event. It is a great park if you live close by and need to have a quick park to go to.”

“I was having an issue creating an account to sign my daughter up for a class. So I called for assistance. The person that helped me was great. I think something strange happened in the system(might have been my fault) but she took my number, fixed the issue, and called me back. I was able to register that day for the class. The class has not started so this review is more about customer service which was outstanding.”

“Map pin is wrong. Park in the lot east of Waukegan, then cross the street (awkward). The trail head is just behind the red sign for Somme prairie grove. Trails end east of the train tracks”

“Don't underestimate the wind if you're playing on top of the hill. Bring a jacket even if it's warm outside. Fields are a little uneven in certain places, but not in bad condition. Playing so close to I-90 can be distracting at times, but it's a good open space for games. Parking can be awkward. And bring Starbucks because there's nothing close by for refreshments.”

“I love the trail they have, it is very calm when I go. I always see the maintenance people, they take care of the lawn and also check/fix anything that is broken. They have multiple batting fields which are numbered. They have a little work out area which you are welcome to use.”

“Great little walking loop, give or take it's about a mile. Has a decent amount of elevation/ ups and downs for the area. Walkers, runners, families, bikes, rollerblading, baby strollers are all common users of the path. The path isn't overly wide, but I've never felt like its been over crowded to the point that you couldn't comfortably use it. No dog walking allowed. Paved, mostly in good condition with the occasional uneven or damaged section. This area is maintained well. 2 non floating docks to fish off of, they stock. The water level will rise above the docks when we get a lot of rain. Has a small.amount of shore line, good for the kids to play and fishing. Street parking, no parking lot. A dozen or so benches, and another dozen or so table tops. In the middle of a residential area. Not a lot of shade. I wouldn't recommend it as a destination, but if you are in the area it's great for a quick walk.”

“Vittum Park is a large neighborhood park with many different athletic fields, a playground, and a water spray feature. The playground was renovated in 2015 and features two play structures - a smaller one for younger children and a larger one for older children - as well as a set of standard Chicago Park swings. The water spray feature is a 'loch ness mister' and an overhead spray element. All the equipment is very nice and well-maintained. The setting and non-play elements are very solid. There are large, mature trees surrounding the site and a few benches and picnic tables for seating. The nearby fieldhouse provides access to bathrooms (when open). The play area is fenced from the street but not enclosed and opens directly into the rest of the spacious park. All in all, this is a great park and playground; highly recommend.”

“Great place to spend part of the day. Great walking path around the lake which is about 3/4 a mile. Benches scattered around path to sit and relax while admiring the view. Outdoor workout facility is not extensive, but enough to get a little workout in. Paddle boats and canoes available for rental on the weekends are a nice way to get out on the water. Nice firefighter/police memorial is close nearby and definitely worth a look.”

“Watched my granddaughter practice soccer for the first time. She did a wonderful job because the instructor did good with explanations and demonstrations was encouraging all. For this the young age though I think he was a bit wordy. You could see that all the kids and parents had a great time. Plus was a lovely day for it. The park is wide-open lots of activity going on dancing in the band shelter area, baseball game starting behind us, swimming pool, walking path, and park. it looks like a beautiful!!”

“My dog and I had an amazing time exploring Somme Woods after the large snowfall this winter. I was impressed that the snow had been stamped down along the trails such that I was able to hike without being completely engulfed. We weren't able to see every corner of these woods, which makes this a five star park, imo. :) Small streams and tiny footbridges add charm to this precious plot of land.”

“Melas park is a big place to go for a walk , meet friendly people, take your dog since it's dog friendly and play sports or bike. There is a good size playground for kids in different ages ,plenty of parking places and benches to restor have coffee with friends . I would love to see some of the places in the path being fixed, its not easy to walk around some of them especially if you have physically challenged or have disability.”

“The policy of uniform, flush-to-ground headstones is wonderful. Having visited family plots at Westlawn to grieve...the crowded headstones are a distraction....almost like visiting someone in jail. The open space at Shalom allows one to pray and grieve at a family member's plot...without so much distraction. Don't know who pioneered this policy, but thank you.”

Awesome building with bathrooms, vending machines, seating area and learning center. Outdoor tables and seating. Portopottys are outside as well and very clean. Highly recommend a visit!”
