“I called ahead for advice (3:50 pm MT on Mon, July 22, 2019) on where I might go with my boyfriend to disperse camp in a couple of days. The woman who answered was helpful and gave me detailed directions on where we might go, as well as advice on how busy the area might be at our time of arrival. I wish I had prepared a notebook and pen to write it all down while she was talking but I think I remembered it well enough!”

“Great campground! Spent 4 days here. Most of the sites are near a stream (I think sites 10, 11, and 12 are the closest) which was really nice to fall asleep to each night. Bathrooms were really clean vault toilets. Access to tons of trails nearby. Highly recommend!”

“The campground was very nice and well kept. It was super busy, though. With only 8 spots you will be lucky to find one open. Camped Mon-Thurs and there was never a free spot for longer than 5 minutes. Good luck, if you get in, it's great.”

“Beautiful! But be prepared for the weather!! Temperature can be 40 degrees cooler than in Denver and the wind can blow pretty hard. But it's so worth the effort to get up to the summit! We had our Chihuahuas, we saw a lot of other dogs and a few younger kids on the way up. Get out there and explore this great state!”

“Beautiful hike! 4wd Recommended to get to the parking lot. If u have 2wd like me I parked at the dirt road turn off and hiked the road to the parking lot. Dirt road is really rocky with loose rocks. Hike is nice but really steep when your close to the mountain. So worth the climb!”

Rock House Kingston Peak Trail

Address: Idaho Springs, CO 80452, USA

Park

“This was a great trail. The road going up was definitely rougher than the trail though, nothing my stock Jeep JKU with 33" All terrains couldn't handle. Just steep and rocky, but really fun to drive. When we got to the beginning of the trail and the view was absolutely astonishing. The trail takes you down one mountain and up another. Unfortunately we didn't go all the way through the trail because we were pressed for time, but what we did go through was amazing. Fairly easy trail, but you do want to make sure you have clearance and low range gears for getting up.”

St Mary's Glacier Trailhead

Address: St Marys Dr, Idaho Springs, CO 80452, USA

Park

“Did it! Don't wear flip flops OK? Very Rocky, possibly a 2500 foot doable hike with some steep sections but youths to seniors can be spotted foraging along the way if you're quiet. The lake and the glacier at the top are worth the effort. We will be back.”

West Chicago Creek

Address: W Chicago Creek Rd, Idaho Springs, CO 80452, USA

Campground Lodging Park

“My buddy and I hiked to Lake Edith. The trail is a mix of oh my goodness elevation gain , look at these cool roots and trees, flat easy walking, beautiful views, plenty of friendly dogs that need some petting and super friendly dog chaperones and hikers. 10 of 10 would do again . Nearly the elevation gain of an easier 14er with 3000 ft extra oxygen !”

Courtney-Ryley-Cooper Park

Address: 2350 Colorado Blvd, Idaho Springs, CO 80452, USA

Park

“Ample parking, hours are from 0600 to 2200 for vehicles and restroom access - after that vehicles get ticketed and restrooms locked. Within walking distance headed west, right by the official visitor center, you have additional parking and 6 port-a-potties (2 are ADA compliant) with 3 on each side of the street. The park itself has a pretty good kid playground area and a couple of bridges across the creek, head to the west or east and you will enjoy a short loop walk to potty/exercise any pets. Be mindful of the creek, it is used for white water rafting tours so it will always be swift and full of rocks. If you venture further along the main street use the railed sidewalks to ensure your protection from vehicle traffic, most are accessible at corners only via steps and/or ADA ramps).”

AVA Cliffside Zipline

Address: 431 CO-103, Idaho Springs, CO 80452, USA

Travel agency Park

“Spencer and Emily were great guides. They did a great jobs training us on how to manage the brakes with the use of hand signals. I have ziplined several times before, but this was fun because it was on the side of a mountain. It also had some fun optional challenges dispersed throughout the course. Our group ranged from ages 17-67 and we all had a great time! Definitely worth the price!”

“Wow what a big change for me. Went from east of Denver to West of Denver into the mountains. I love this park, and Lynn is so helpful... Can't wait for summer and see the yard. Hear they are so manicured and beautilful. Had some mule deer visit tonight. Cool!”

Cottonwood RV & Mobile Home Park

Address: 1485 Chicago Creek Rd, Idaho Springs, CO 80452, USA

Campground Rv park Park Lodging

“Super cute RV and mobile home park. It's $41 a night. FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. Cash only. I don't think that there's bathrooms or anything. Full hookups for RVs - water, electric, and sewage. Comes with decent Wifi. Not streaming quality, but good enough for looking things up. The park is close enough to Denver that it's 30 minutes to get in, but far enough away that you don't have to deal with Denver. Idaho Springs is an adorable little town with a mine you can tour. We spent Fourth of July at Cottonwood RV and we could see the fireworks at Idaho Springs from our RV. If you want small town Americana but still be close to a big city than this is the RV park for you.”
