“Had a grand time at Leisure Resort! Wish I had discovered it earlier in the summer so I could have tubed a bit. Nice old school space. Staff were super nice and helpful. Will definitely be returning.”

“Very family-friendly neighborhood park with new, well-maintained playground area. Connects to paved trail for easy access to Evers Park (1 mile walk) and the elementary school next to it. Only downside is not bathrooms so not good as a destination park.”

“This place is really great, they've worked really hard to keep a park like natural setting: very shaded with a lot of trees and surprisingly quiet given the nearby highway. The owner is very responsive and seems genuinely interested in making it a great natural park to stay in. Full hookups and 50a in every spot! Bonham is about ten minutes away and McKinney is about 25 minutes away.”

“I've only visited this place in the autumn and winter, but it's a great hidden little campground. The road to get in is a little rough but is short. I've towed my 34' trailer in and out no problem, even in the snow. Ice might make it too slippery to get up or down the small hill into the campground, though. It has easy access to the river and a couple sites have views of the river. There is a vault toilet. There are no services (no water, no RV dump, no power). There are picnic tables and fire rings. Fort Churchill proper is just two miles up the road and it does have water and an RV dump. I've always assumed it's permitted to go there to get water and dump the tanks if you've paid to stay at Scout Camp. There's a horse corral and manure dump.”

“This nature center is tucked in away in a neighborhood. It has an amazing indoor space to explore, an adorable playground and picnic area. There are walking and hiking trails to explore the grounds. They had a story stroll setup on our visit. Highly recommend for all families with kids of all ages!”

“Since they renovated the beach it's absolutely great. Plenty of room for a lot of people (it helps that it's a $8 pp fee to get in), a lot of natural shade from trees, always fully staffed with lifeguards, new playground and restroom facilities. Perfect for kids, the water is mostly shallow so even a 4yo can enjoy it and older kids have a lot of swimming room. The water is treated somehow so it's not grimy, there's no seaweed or disgusting lake stuff like other lake beaches. Excellent beach for families.”

“Known as a fisherman's paradise, Black Lake is a favorite for anglers. The cottages at McClears are clean and spacious and the owners are friendly and helpful. You will need areservation im advance for a cottage, but the campgrounds and camping cabins usually have a free space. I have been coming here for 25 years and even though I have tried other places on the lake, this is my favorite. It has easy access to the best fishing, the boats work great and it is always a wonderful adventure!”

“I came in midweek and stayed as a walk-in reservation. The camp host was by far the best camp host I ever experienced. Vernon was super helpful and attentive. He shared lots of interesting stories and told me the best fishing holes. Bathroom was so clean for vault toilets in a campground. The sites are spacious and clean. There’s some road noise but it doesn’t bother me at all, and it’s quiet at night. Easy access for fishing too! As a woman camping alone in an area with no cell service I was slightly nervous. Vernon made me feel safe and secure. He told me he’d keep an eye out. He drove by a couple times just to check on me. He suggested I keep my car keys close, if I had any issue or heard anything to set off my panic alarm and he’d be there in a minute. Made me feel at ease, Vernon was very grandfatherly and genuinely cares for the campground, campers and wildlife. I will definitely be going back!”

“I’m one of ‘those’ full-timers! I’m one of “those” full-timers (about a year and a half now, with no end in sight) at Pecan Park and I love it here! It is quieter, safer, and with the pecan trees and river access RIGHT there, more beautiful than anywhere else I’ve ever lived (and I had several very nice homes over the years.) I feel like I’m in a little slice of heaven in the country where I don’t do any of the yard work, have access to a pool I don’t have to clean, a wonderful community of folks, both the full-timers and weekenders, and am so close to shopping and whatever else San Marcos has to offer. Did the pool used to have some dumb rules? Sounds like it, but now it’s open for all, and NOT “closed for repairs” like it had been too often in the last year. I know that calls hadn’t been returned in the past (I was one of those really frustrated customers who experienced that for quite awhile) but that is no longer the case. I know that some people experienced not-so-great customer service (I did too), but that ship has sailed. I know that someone’s code for the gate was changed without being apprised, and so was mine some months back. All infuriating for us, the customer, because we weren’t treated like we mattered. Well, the owners, David and Rachael, have recently returned after some years of unforeseen absence, and what a difference. Maintenance people have been hired. Lots of graveling, paving, tree-trimming, painting, pool repairs and other updates were put into place. The office is abuzz with activity and calls are answered, communication is open, and David and Rachael have now been consistently present 7 days a week, all day long. They’ve met with each of the full-timers and other winter Texans to get to know them, and it sure feels like we matter to them. There was no incentive for me to write this review, nor did I get any discounts on my rent or favors. I’m just a retired teacher who thinks it’s important to tell people, and let others know, when they are doing well.”

“Even in winter it's stunning! A bit of a shorter walk than most. It's completely boardwalk except for part of it when you have to cross the street. Right before that there's a section of boardwalk that's sinking in a little with excess weight so watch your step.”

“About two weeks ago I was here to fish. The park is owned by Ypsilanti and Eastern Michael University as they use the dock for their skulling team practices. It just so happened they were there today. When they were finished I did not know they would be pulling in the dock for winter. That limits your efforts to catch crappie by about 20 feet. But I stayed and fished for crappie 20 feet further in than before. Eventually get this bite but couldn’t hook it and the bait was gone. Rebait the hook and another bite occurs, but this one didn’t get away! Ta-da!! A beautiful 21” walleye. This is a great place to fish!!”

“We love coming here! My only complaint is all the small rocks in the splash pad area. There are three playgrounds, each probably from a different era. My kids love the newest one. The splash pad is nice, although a few of the features weren't working. There are also baseball and soccer fields here, along with plenty of picnic tables.”

“It was a beautiful setting. A few different hiking trails with beautiful scenery as well. They make it fun with little scavenger hunts you can do and all of it is self-paced. You may have to get creative in entertaining yourself if you're trying to stay there for more than an hour to hour and a half as there is not much to do other than the cave and the gift shop. Still worth the trip because the cave was beautiful! I love that they had workers stationed throughout the cave and giving the guests little tidbits of information. Especially the freedom to walk past if you were not interested or to stay and get more insight.”

“Lovely park on the Northern tip of Roosevelt Island. Best way to get there is public transportation as parking on the island can be rough. The "Motorgate" Parking Garage is the closest public garage and it is about 0.8 mile walk from there to the Park. Rates are about $8 per hour, $10 for 2 hours. You also can walk/bike over from Queens using the Roosevelt Island Bridge-36th Avenue. You can also take the F Train or Tram to Roosevelt Island from Manhattan and then take the free Red Bus which runs up and down the Island. The park is a beautiful open space with the lighthouse on the end.The park also has the "Girl Puzzle" exhibit some open grassed space. The space is very well maintained. It offers some lovely views of Queens and the Manhattan skyline.”

“The tallest slide is one of the best in the city. Big area for dogs to play and a long paved walk to ride a bike or scooter. The playscape is also top notch with lots of climbing and scaling and adventures both natural and man made.”

“Mile High Pines was so great! The campground was beautiful. They had multiple activities such as rock climbing, zip lining, a pool to swim in, a set up to play 9 square (which is so fun btw). Meals served were delicious, especially for going to camp. Lunch and dinner were my favorites. I will say, take cushioned blankets or a nice thick sleeping bag because the bunk cots are really thin mattresses. That would be my only suggestion if you are concerned about comfort. For kids and younger adults they probably won't be an issue, but I'm a mom, and 29 years old. Even though that's not old, my back was still really hurting in that bunk lol I had a great time though. It's perfect for being in nature, while still having comforts of home. Would definitely recommend 👌”

“Loved this park, there is a lot to do and keeps kids busy. I also like the amount of areas to sit around the park. They have bathrooms and a nice trail that leads to the lake. We had fun for hours.”
